Pulling up fashionably late outside the Granville Center for the Arts, rows of people sit in their backyard folding chairs, arched to give space to see the slightly lifted wooden stage.
On stage, 10-year-old Cole Perkins and 11-year-old Hayes Browder perform an assortment of rock and roll classics. The drum set in front of Hayes swallows him, allowing the audience to see only his baseball cap over the cymbals. Cole looks out at the crowd of people, rocking out on his guitar, while singing in full confidence.

A few people drop off crumpled dollar bills into Cole’s guitar case, like they’re subway performers.
Every so often, I catch a song I know, but it brings a smile to my face that these two know much more about rock and roll music than I do.
All around me, people sing, clap, and sway, absorbed in the music. What’s better than a concert to start a Friday night?
