School breaks are always so discombobulated. Some breaks with family and friends never line up perfectly, so we have to see each other when we can. Sometimes we don’t get to see each other all at once. It’s a miracle when we do.
Elsa flew into Columbus at 10 a.m after flying all night from Santa Barbara. I picked her up as soon as she hit the ground. It had been a few months since I had last seen her. Muscle memory took over and routed us to the childhood home of our best friend. A storm in Chicago delayed her flight, but she finally made it.
Olivia’s busy day made us think we weren’t seeing a miracle anytime soon, but we have to take advantage of the time we have.
Friday was warmer than we expected and we were sure to take advantage of that. By the time we got to lunch, the sky had completely cleared up and the sun warmed us on the patio. We sat, the three of us, listening to the busy cars zip by us in our time capsule.
All at once, our eyes lit up. Olivia, smiling, pranced over to say hi.
