Sometimes, the higher the expectation, the more disappointing you feel if plans don’t unfold the way you hope they will. Other times, when you don’t expect much or are even skeptical about things, and it turns out to be just fine, it’s great.

As an avid matcha lover, enthusiast, or even believer, if you will, I am usually not adventurous when it comes to different matcha flavors—the furthest I ever experimented was strawberry matcha, and I loved it. I stick to matcha with oat milk. Classic.

As I traveled to Cleveland with my friend Gracie to visit her family, I decided to order a banana matcha at a coffee shop. Crazy. What an out-of-my-comfort-zone thing to do.

I was skeptical because matcha and bananas are like polar bears and penguins. From opposite poles.

But good news, it was delicious. I would get it again. Hope all the unexpected (and expected) this semester turns out to be like the banana matcha, good.
