Anyone in Licking County looking for a free holiday meal and to spend time with others on Christmas Eve will have several options that day.

A group of individuals who volunteer with social services in Newark are planning to serve meals on Wednesday, Dec. 24, at the Canal Market, just south of the Courthouse Square in Newark.

They will offer breakfast from 10 a.m. to noon, lunch from noon to 2 p.m. and dinner from 2-4 p.m.

“Everyone is welcome – whether you’re in need of a meal, a place to belong, or simply the joy of community,” says a flyer for the event. “Come be a part of a joyous day filled with good food, compassion and connection. All are welcome, all are valued, and everyone belongs.”

The forecast for Wednesday is mostly cloudy, with a high near 46. There is a chance of rain on Wednesday night, with a low of 39 and a possible thunderstorm after 1 a.m. on Thursday, Christmas Day, according to the National Weather Service.

The chance of rain is 80%, but the forecast calls for less than a tenth of an inch.
