Black smoke filled the sky north of Granville on Sept. 8 from a house fire on Sulwen Lane, about 3 miles north of the village off of Rt. 661.

No one was injured, and the cause of the fire was undetermined as of Monday afternoon, according to Lt. Brandon Reece of the Granville Township Fire Department.

The house has significant smoke damage, Reece said.

The homeowners were able to call 911 to report the fire and get out safely.

Firefighters from Granville, St. Albans and Newark townships, and the City of Newark responded and hauled water to the scene because there are no hydrants in that rural area. Reece said a large response is typical in a rural setting with no fire hydrants.
