On Friday, Oct. 4, dozens of community members gathered on the steps of the Licking County Courthouse to celebrate the beginning of Newark’s Pride festival.

The event, called the People’s Lighting of Licking County Courthouse, brought crowds together with handheld flashlights and multicolored filters to illuminate the courthouse in rainbow hues at dusk.

The group began at 8 p.m. on the courthouse steps, and then walked to local businesses near the square that also lit in rainbow colors to show support for Newark’s LGBTQ+ community.
