ARTS | Columbus | Gallery Show: Arts Beacon of Light

“The arts serve as a connector, a conversation starter, and even a lifeline in troubling times. They offer glimmers of hope and inspiration when it seems there’s no light. When COVID-19 struck with its innumerable challenges and traumas, upending life as we knew it, many of us turned to the arts and artists to help process our emotions and make sense of the world as it changed around us. Inspired by Ohio Arts Council board member Tina Husted, the Ohio Arts Beacon of Light initiative launched in April 2020, providing artists an online platform to share, connect, and cope with the challenges presented by COVID-19. The 17 artists featured in Arts Beacon of Light were selected from more than 300 creatives who shared their voices and work with the Arts Beacon community throughout the pandemic. The work in this exhibition highlights the beauty of artistic practice as a salve and reveals themes of basic human need in the time of COVID-19—a collective, yet uniquely individualized experience.” — Katie Monahan, Curator
